Primer:
The time is appx two months after the celebration of the victory of the Battle of Endor and the Death of the Emperor.

The Emperors Hand (Mara Jade) has kidnapped Han Solo and Luke Skywalker.

Princess Leia has after a long search in the wilderness without food discovered their location.

She now has to pass that information on to C3PO ("Goldenrod" - the God of the Ewoks), so he can tell R2D2, and start a release of the prisoners.

However, they're are under surveillance - so Princess Leia has to pass her message using subterfuge. Which is further complicated by her tongue being stunned by accident (see Jar Jar Binks in the SW I: The Phantom Menace how that works).

Knowing C3PO is fluent in over 6 million forms of communication, Leia decides to tell the location of Han and Luke using the dance of the Giant Honey Bee of Alderaan - disguised as an Ewok. Also - she is carrying Luke Light Sabre, which she has to use as a prop in the dance, so that it is not discovered as being what it really is.

And.... Action!

Øverst lå så bogen Ender's Game af Orson Scott Card, som jeg da vist en eller anden gang havde hørt omtalt. Og som vist kommer som film. Og som havde fået voldsomt mange stjerner af læserne. Og som kostede $4,78 til Kindle. Så den købte jeg, og kort efter var jeg igang med at læse den.

Og det var sgu fedt - det er længe siden jeg har været så opslugt af en bog. (Eller - det var jeg vist også da jeg læste Hunger Games-bøgerne for 1½ årstiden siden, men det er da også lidt tid.)

Det er straight, velfortalt Science Fiction: Ender, som egentlig hedder Andrew,  udvælges blandt få talentfulde til at blive trænet til at være officer i jordens rumforsvar. Som er ganske nødvendigt, for man ved at solsystemet indenfor en overskuelig fremtid vil blive invaderet af en hær af bug-eyed monsters - allerede to gange før har der været slag. Vi overlevede mirukløst sidste gang, næste gang bliver det afgørende.

Det ret specielle er at Ender, og de øvrige udvalgte er børn, fra de er 6 år gamle bliver de trænet - træning der er kamufleret som spil og lege, men udvikler sig til dødsens alvor.

Det er udviklingen af Ender bogen handler om - en ret formidabel person - samt hans to søskende, som er lige så intelligente, og på anden vis ender med at få stor betydning for hvad der kommer til at ske i bogen.

Det er intet mindre en moderne Science Fiction-klassiker (ok - moderne og moderne, den er fra midt-firserne ...), og hvis man som jeg ikke kender den bør man unde sig at læse den. Også selvom man ikke er vant til Science Fiction, jeg tænkte undervejs at den virkede som god begynderbog til genren - det er basalt set bare en god historie.

Og læs den gerne inden den kommer som film - den er garanteret fyldt med ramasjang, og det er fint nok - men bogen klarer sig uden. Og tror det er godt med egne billeder af Ender.

Så kan man jo efterfølgende hoppe videre til fortsættelsen, Speaker for the Dead - det gjorde jeg ihvertfald. Og inhalerede den på to dage. Der er sket en del siden Ender's Game, men det vil jeg ikke komme nærmere ind på her, da det kan spoile en del i forhold til første bog. Men den er ihvertfald også fremragende - en del anderledes i stil end Ender's Game, jeg kom en del til at tænke på Asimov's The Gods Themselves. Og jeg skal nu til at gå igang med tredie bog.

P.S. Men lige et råd: begge bøger indeholder ret lange introduktioner. Drop dem, vent med at læse dem til bagefter, jeg synes det er too much information inden handlingen.

[Opdatering 16/9:] Er så blevet færsig med tredje bog, Xenocide, og den må jeg tilgengæld sige jeg finder ret skuffende. Alt for meget semi-religiøst pseudo-filosofi, og bogens karakterer bruger meget tid på at småskændes indbyrdes - og de fungerer ikke. Den kan til nød læses, men så heller ikke mere. Og jeg kan fra anemelselser se at det fortsætter i det spor, så jeg står af her.

When I first saw the tweet about the new Twitter-App update with a new style of conversations, I was curious: How would it work.

So, I pretty soon updated my app - and shortly after regretted doing so. Because - these Blue Lines in the timeline really ruins my twitter experience.

At first I was hopeful that the update would be rolled back quickly, or a new update launched without them. But nothing had happened (at least not on Android - I have heard about iOS-users updating later, and not having the lines, but getting other updates instead.)

It is not like I am alone in disliking this update - I think I have seen two tweets being positive, out of hundreds of negative ones. And it's really not just a matter of "getting used to them" - I really hope I'll never become used to them.

The Blue Lines ruin the most important part of twitter - the timeline - for me. This is why:

• They are ugly
  
  Granted, if I liked the way they worked I might not feel this way. But I don't - and I really don't think they are pleasing to look at.
   
• They are confusing
  
  When I skim my timeline I find it hard to see where one conversation stops and another starts. Especially because I find myself more and more skimming faster over tweets with blue lines, because I don't want a repeat of the conversation I'll probably get.
   
• They are annoying
  
  I just mentioned it, above. The repeats. I see the same tweet, again and again - because it has engaged a lot of people. That would normally be a good thing for a tweet to do that. But I find myself beginning to hate these engaging tweets, because they keep turning up in my feed, and I have read them.
   
• They ruin the flow
  
  Before the blue lines there was a logical flow to my timeline, the chronology made sense. Not so now, now I have to remember that tweets above other tweets, were actually made before, not after, the one before, if there is a blue line. That takes a lot of mental energy - so much that I feel skimming my timeline is becoming stressful.

The last part is really the worst. I especially noticed it when I was using twitter in the middle of the night last night. Now for me, because of time zones, in the night it is mostly American or Australian tweeps I have in my timeline - and they don't have many conversations, as they are some I have randomly picked up, and probably not many follow each other.

The result being, in the night my timeline is almost entirely without blue lines - and it felt so good. So relaxing - after under a week of the blue lines filling my timeline during the day.

Please, Twitter - I love the fact that you try to make a better interface, and I don't mind you experimenting. But this was a dead end. It's bad. So, can we please get rid of it?

I can see why you wanted to make it clearer when a tweet is part of a conversation, but really a small blue dot, or other visual hint should be more than enough.

Or, if you really insist on keeping these horrible lines, then at least give us an option not to have them.

Otherwise I can only recommend people use another app for twitter. (I myself are more or less forced to use them, as I write a guide for them. *sigh*)

(BTW, if you see the lines on the web, and they are not ble - and wonder how come I talk about blues lines: it's because on the web the color used is the same as you have chosen for links. Whereas in the apps the color is always twitter-blue.)
